Contractor Websites Built to Win Jobs, Not Design Awards
Every referral gets searched before it gets called. We build the site that survives that search.
Referrals Get Searched Before They Get Called
Word of mouth built most contracting businesses, and it still works. What has changed is what happens after the recommendation. Somebody passes your name along, and before that homeowner calls you they search it, and they judge whatever comes up in about ten seconds.
If that search turns up nothing, or a Facebook page last updated two years ago, or a site that will not load on a phone, the referral quietly dies. You never find out it happened. There is no missed call to point at, no unanswered email, just a job that went to someone else who looked more established.
This is the real cost of not having a proper site, and it is invisible by design. Contractors rarely lose work because their website was bad. They lose it because a homeowner compared them against two competitors who looked more legitimate online, and never got in touch to say so.
What Homeowners Check Before They Call You
Homeowners hiring a contractor are spending real money on a stranger who will be inside or on top of their house for days. They are looking for reasons to eliminate you, not reasons to hire you, and they run the same checks nearly every time.
First, have you done this exact job before, and can they see photographs of it. Not a gallery of generic renovation stock images, but your work, ideally somewhere nearby. Second, are you licensed and insured, and can they confirm it without asking. Third, do you actually cover their address, which is the question most contractor websites answer worst.
Fourth, and increasingly first, what do your reviews say and how recent are they. A contractor with eighteen reviews from this year beats one with sixty from four years ago, because recency reads as still being in business and still being good.
What Your Contractor Website Includes
Everything below is standard, not an upsell list.
Your Own Project Photos
Real before-and-after galleries from your jobs. Stock photography of somebody else's kitchen is the fastest way to lose a homeowner who is comparing three quotes.
Service Area Pages
Individual pages for the towns you actually work in, so you are eligible for searches beyond the one where your office sits.
License & Insurance Up Front
Licensing, bonding, insurance, warranty and manufacturer certifications placed where a cautious homeowner looks for them.
Quote Requests That Get Finished
Short forms that ask for the job type and location first and the long details later, because every extra field before the commitment loses people.
A Page Per Trade
Roofing, HVAC, electrical, remodels, decks, landscaping. Each is a separate search with separate intent, and lumping them into one services page means ranking for none of them.
Reviews Beside the Button
Your Google reviews shown next to the quote request, at the exact moment a stranger decides whether you are worth the call.
The Map Pack Decides Most Trade Enquiries
For most trades, the map pack decides the outcome. Search a roofing or HVAC term with any location attached and Google shows three business listings above everything else. Those three take the bulk of the enquiries.
Getting there is separate work from building the site. It depends on your Google Business Profile being complete and correctly categorised, your business details matching across every directory, reviews arriving steadily, and how close you are to the searcher. We do that alongside the build, because a contractor site that never enters the map pack is competing for whatever is left underneath it.
The site still feeds it. Google reads your website to understand what your profile is about and how much to trust it, and thin or slow sites cap how far the profile can rise.
Contractor Website FAQ
How much does a contractor website cost?expand_more
It depends on how many trades and service areas you need covered and whether you want local SEO alongside the build. We quote after a short call rather than forcing everyone into one package, because a solo remodeler and a fifteen-crew roofing company need very different sites.
How long does it take to build a contractor website?expand_more
Most contractor sites are designed, built and live within a few weeks. The slow part is usually gathering your project photos and service list, so the more of that you have ready, the faster it goes.
Do I really need a website if I get all my work from referrals?expand_more
Referrals still get checked. Someone hands your name to a neighbour, and the first thing that neighbour does is search it. If nothing credible comes up, the referral quietly dies before you ever hear about it. A website does not replace word of mouth, it stops word of mouth from leaking.
Do you only work with contractors in your area?expand_more
No. Website design and organic SEO work the same regardless of where either of us is based, and we build for contractors across the United States and Canada. The only genuinely local part is map pack ranking, which depends on your address and service area, not ours.
What should be on a contractor website that usually is not?expand_more
Photographs of your own completed jobs rather than stock images, your license and insurance details, the specific towns you cover, and pricing guidance of some kind even if it is only a range. Homeowners filter out contractors who make them work to find basic information.
Can you make my site rank for the towns I serve, not just my address?expand_more
Yes, and this is where most contractor sites fall down. One page listing every town you cover in a footer will not do it. Each area needs a real page with genuine content about working there. That is what makes you eligible to show up for searches outside your immediate postcode.
